Birthday on a yacht in Istanbul: ideas and how to plan it

Planning a birthday on a yacht in Istanbul comes down to three decisions: what kind of party you want, what time of day, and how many guests are coming. The cake, balloons, table decoration and the yacht itself are already covered by our Birthday Yacht Celebration. Below are ideas for the day, how to match the time and the yacht to your group, what to tell us in advance and what to wear.

Where to start

Picture the evening first. A quiet dinner with close friends needs a different setup from a party with a DJ, and ten guests need a different yacht from forty. Once you know the rough size of the group and the mood, everything else falls into place.

The easy starting point is our ready-made Birthday Yacht Celebration: three hours on a private yacht with a birthday cake, balloons, a decorated festive table and the table setting. It’s just you, your guests and the crew on board. The price is for the whole tour, not per person, and VAT (KDV) isn’t included.

Birthday ideas on the water

A sunset celebration

An evening cruise is the simplest plan: the sunset first, then the city lights and the illuminated bridges. We time the departure to the sunset on your date, usually leaving about 30 minutes before it. If you’d like to catch it at a particular spot, such as by a bridge, we leave about an hour before. How well you’ll see the sunset depends on the clouds. Bring the cake out once it’s dark: candles look better against the lights along the shore. Dinner on board

If you want everyone around one long table, add dinner or catering. The table is set on the yacht, and nobody is waiting for you to free it up, as they might in a restaurant. You can bring your own food and drinks: on some yachts it’s free, on others there’s a small service fee.

A party with music

Every yacht has a sound system, so your own playlist already gets the party going. If you want more, a DJ or live music can be added as an extra.

A family birthday with children

For a children’s or family birthday, daytime works best. Children are welcome on board. They count as full passengers, so give us the total number of guests including the kids.

A surprise

If the birthday person doesn’t know, keep the chat with us to yourself. We’ll agree on the date, time, cake and decorations with you, and the table and balloons will be ready when the guests step on board.

Choosing a yacht for your group

You pay for the whole yacht, not per person, so the price is split across everyone on board. For how the price adds up, see our guide to Istanbul yacht rental prices. The table shows a few yachts of different sizes; the rate is per hour of rental, for the whole yacht.

What to tell us in advance

• Date and time. Daytime, evening or sunset — this sets the departure time.
• Number of guests, children included. We’ll choose the yacht to match.
• Cake and decorations. We agree on the cake size and decorations in advance, so tell us the colors and any message you’d like.
• The mood. A relaxed dinner or a party, so we know whether you need catering, a DJ or live music.
• Extras. A photographer, video or a transfer, if you want them.
• Boarding point. It depends on the yacht you choose; if another one suits you better, we’ll help you find one closer to you. If it’s close by, there’s no extra charge; if the yacht has to travel to reach it, that time is billed at its hourly rate.
• Your own food and drinks. You don’t have to let us know in advance, but it helps us set the table.

You can book the yacht itself on the day if one is free, but booking 2–3 days ahead gives you a wider choice and leaves time to prepare the cake and decorations. A 20% deposit confirms your booking, and the balance is paid when you board.

What to wear and bring

• Clothes for the weather. It’s cooler on the water in the evening than on shore. If the day is warm but the evening turns chilly, bring a jacket or a wrap.
• A dress code for photos. Agree on one color with your guests, say all in white, and the group shots will look like a set.
• A good mood. We’ll take care of the rest.

A winter birthday works too: we sail all year round, and every yacht has an enclosed, heated saloon, so there’s always somewhere warm on board.

Weather

The captain always makes the call. If there’s a storm or it isn’t safe to go out, we’ll move your cruise to another convenient date free of charge. If your date isn’t tied to the birthday itself, it’s worth keeping a spare day in mind.
