Bosphorus dinner cruise with a Turkish show or a private yacht dinner: how to choose

· Bosphorus Privé Team

If you want a lively night out with music, dancing and a show, a dinner cruise on a large shared boat is the easy choice. If you’d rather have the evening to yourselves — to talk, celebrate something or simply be together — dinner on a private yacht, with only your group and the crew on board, is the better fit. Both mean dinner on the water with the city lights around you, but they make for very different evenings.

Here’s how each format usually works, and a few questions that make the choice easier.

How a dinner show cruise usually works

A Bosphorus dinner cruise with a Turkish show is typically held on a large sightseeing boat with a dining room full of tables. You book seats, arrive at the set time and sit at your table while the boat cruises along the shore and the show plays out on board.

Most things are shared:

  • The menu. Usually a fixed set of dishes served to everyone. Drinks may be included in the ticket or charged separately, so it’s worth checking before you book.
  • The timetable. The boat leaves and returns on its own schedule and can’t adjust to your evening.
  • The show. Often a mix of folk dances, belly dancing, live music and a host, and guests are sometimes invited to join in. What’s on depends on the organizer.
  • The company. The tables next to yours are filled with other visitors, often from many different countries. For some people that’s part of the fun; for others it gets in the way of a conversation.

There’s nothing wrong with this format. It’s a ready-made evening: you don’t plan anything, and the show sets the mood. If you want a loud, cheerful night with dancing and don’t mind who’s sitting nearby, a dinner show is a good pick.

How a private yacht dinner works

With a private yacht, you don’t book a table — you book the whole yacht. There’s no one else on board: just you, your guests and the crew (at least two people). So the question isn’t “what’s the show?” but “what kind of evening do you want?”

A ready-made dinner for two

For a couple, we have our Romantic Dinner Cruise. The table is set for two while the yacht moves slowly past palaces, waterside mansions and bridges. Dinner is prepared from a menu you agree on in advance and served on board. The table setting, tableware and service are included.

The price is for the whole tour, not per person, and VAT (KDV) isn’t included. If two hours feels too short and the yacht is free on your date, you can extend the cruise; extra time is added as an additional service.

Sunset first, then dinner

Leave at sunset and you’ll catch the evening light first, then the shores lighting up. For sunset trips, we time the departure to the sunset on your date — that’s how the Bosphorus Sunset Cruise works (from €180 for the whole tour, 2 hours), and dinner can be added to it too. How much of the sunset you see depends on the weather.

Your menu, your drinks, your music

On a dinner show, the organizer sets the program. On a yacht, you shape the evening:

  • we agree on the menu with you before the day;
  • you can bring your own food and drinks: on some yachts it’s free, on others there’s a small service fee;
  • you can play your own music or add a musician;
  • you can add flowers, a cake, decorations, a photographer or a transfer. What’s available depends on the yacht and date.

You won’t get a stage show with a dance troupe on a yacht for two. What you do get is a table that isn’t one of many, no music to shout over and nobody interrupting the moment. If you’re planning to pop the question, our guide to proposing in Istanbul walks you through it.

If there are more than two of you

The Romantic Dinner Cruise is designed for two. For a family or a group of friends, the idea is the same — we just match the yacht to your group size. You can also have dinner or catering brought on board for a regular cruise; what’s available depends on the yacht and date. Our prices are always for the whole yacht, so for a group the cost is split between everyone.

Want a celebration with entertainment but without strangers? Take a look at Private Yacht Events. You can add catering, a DJ, performers, and photo and video to the cruise. We’ll find a yacht to suit the occasion and prepare a tailored proposal.

How to choose: four questions

  1. What matters most about the evening? If it’s the show and the party atmosphere, go for a dinner show. If it’s conversation, an occasion or a surprise, a private yacht fits better.
  2. Does it matter who’s around you? For a proposal or an anniversary, a full room of strangers is usually more than you want.
  3. Does a fixed timetable suit you? A dinner show boat leaves at its set time. A private yacht leaves at the time we agree on — including at sunset.
  4. How many of you are there? For one person, a dinner show ticket usually costs less. For a couple or a group, a private yacht gives you a different kind of evening, and the price is shared.

Weather and booking

You can have dinner on a yacht year-round: on a cool evening there’s always the heated saloon — every yacht we offer has one. The captain always makes the call: if there’s a storm or it isn’t safe to go out, we’ll move your cruise to another date free of charge.

Booking 2–3 days ahead gives you a wider choice of yachts. A 20% deposit confirms your booking, and the balance is paid when you board.

On Valentine’s Day (February 14), we sail on request at a special rate. Book that date early; we’ll share the booking terms for it when you ask. Every yacht, with photos and prices, is on our yachts page.
